Twenty-eight years ago yesterday, June 8, 1978 The Brethren struck down a 148-year-old policy of excluding black men from the priesthood. This was a watershed moment in the Church's history.--the first "major" revelation affecting Church practice in a significant way in my lifetime. I was pleased to hear the news. It was exciting to see revelation at work. Four months later in General Conference, President N. Elden Tanner, presented Official Declaration 2 to the general Church body. The revelation was accepted unanimously by common consent, (a concept from which this blog takes its name) and canonized now in the Doctrine and Covenants.

Ah, yes, "revelation at work." And after all this time, the church still won't admit that the priesthood ban should never have existed in the first place.
